Instagram adds Boomerang effects as TikTok looms
Such innovations will allow the social network to retain its popularity. Boomerang is no longer a new feature, so users are increasingly ignoring it. In the conditions of fierce competition with TikTok, which offers countless different effects for video, new effects in Instagram Stories will help social network to compete successfully.
"Starting today, people on Instagram will be able to share new SloMo, Echo and Duo Boomerang modes on Instagram" a Facebook company spokesperson tells TechCrunch. "Your Instagram camera gives you ways to express yourself and easily share what you're doing, thinking or feeling with your friends. Boomerang is one of the most beloved camera formats and we're excited to expand the creative ways that you can use Boomerang to turn everyday moments into something fun and unexpected."
Several new effects are now available to social network users. Among them is the SlowMo effect, which allows you to make Boomerang slower by half, which increases the duration of the video itself by one second each way. In his statement Instagram described his work: "slows down your Boomerang to capture each detail". The Echo effect blurs objects that are in motion, leaving a trace of them, "creates a double vision effect." Duo "both speeds up and slows down your Boomerang, adding a texturized effect." Another innovation was trimming. It will reduce the length of video in a similar way to any iPhone. "Edit the length of your Boomerang, and when it starts or ends."
All new instruments are located in Stories composer. After taking a boomerang, an infinity symbol will appear on the screen to show you the possible effects and help you choose the most appropriate one. Mobile researcher Jane Manchun Wong spotted Instagram prototyping new Boomerang filters and the trimmer last year.
The update has become the largest for one of the most popular tools in Instagram for creating video clips. Now Boomerang is not a simple video that shoots 1 second of the video and then plays it back and forth. However, new effects are not an original idea of social networking. Back in 2015, a few days after the launch of Boomerang's first feature, Snapchat social network released several effects to slow down and speed up video. And TikTok already allows making video pixel or blurring moving objects in it.
Meanwhile, TikTok has focused on sound and video effects, which have become the basis for their brilliant memories. Instagram has chosen a diverse selection of facial filters as the main focus of its Stories. Perhaps in the future, social networking will expand the feature set for video creation, as users expect the Stories to become more interesting.
Despite the fact that Instagram has long dominated in the field of video creation for social networks, today there are already many worthy competitors, such as Snapchat and TikTok, which are becoming more and more popular. Having existed for almost 10 years, the social network should strive for renewal so as not to lose its leadership.
